Montana Small Business Health Insurance
With an entire state population of under one million, Montana may be "big sky" country, but small businesses have found that locating their business in this state is both relaxing and full of opportunity. There are plenty of small businesses in Montana, and plenty of room to expand. In fact, Montana's economy is dominated by the small entity. The majority of these small employers have ten workers or less. With such a small workforce, employee loyalty is crucial. Yet only thirty percent of these small businesses offered health insurance to their employees in 2002. Fortunately, insurance carriers in Montana are working hard to help small businesses attract loyal employees by offering them plans that are affordable and comprehensive, in accordance with the state's insurance regulations. - Insurance carriers covering small businesses with 2-50 employees can charge higher group premiums due to health status and risk, however there is a limit to the variation allowed.

- Basic plans must be less than standard plans and include at least the benefits that are offered under MCHA. They must also cover mammograms, chemical dependency and mental health.
- The solo self-employed worker cannot enroll in a group plan, however she can deduct up to 100% of premiums paid on an individual plan at tax time
